The Bishop of Goaso Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Kwaku Atuahene recently dedicated a chapel for the St. Matthew Catholic Church at Kunsu in the Goaso Diocese.
The first church building in Kunsu was built around 1930 at the Kunsu old town. It was moved from that place to a site in 1938. Between 1948 and 1958, the Church was again relocated to the Roman Catholic Primary School grounds. Currently, the new Church building is situated on the Junior High School grounds which is close to the Presbytery.
The beautiful edifice was started by Rev. Fr. Dr. Anthony Yamfo Gyarnerah. Frs. Dominic Apaatah, Jonas Opoku Gyamfi and Elisha Manu respectively contributed their quota in the building while the present Parish Priest, Fr. Sixtus Kyei Kusi and his Associate Fr. Stephen Naab, saw the completion of the church building.
The congregation which consisted of the parishioners, invited guests and well-wishers including the Chief of Kunsu, Nana Dr. Dr. Agyeman Badu and his elders gathered in front of the new Church building where the architect, Mr. James Asante Frimpong and supervisor of the building handed over the keys to the Bishop. Bishop Atuahene after receiving the keys handed them over to Fr. Kusi.
The Bishop emphasised that the new Church building is not a place for meetings, entertainment and political rallies, but a place set aside for prayers and interpersonal dialogue with the Lord and must be treated as such.
Dignitaries present included wife of the Chief of Kunsu, Mercy Asieduwaah; Nananom, the District Chief Executive of Ahafo Ano South District, Mr. Joseph Frimpong; the aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Elvis Dapaah; the Vicar General of the Goaso Diocese, Rev. Msgr. Matthew Addai, scores of Priests and the Religious.
