“Christ Is Risen! Ghana Erupts in Joy”
Across Ghana, the 2026 Easter celebrations burst into life with profound spirituality, colour, and renewed hope, as the Catholic Church led thousands in marking the resurrection of Christ.
From the grandeur of cathedral liturgies in Accra to the quiet devotion of rural parishes, Catholics turned out in their numbers, declaring a message of faith that transcended economic hardship and social uncertainty.
At the heart of the celebrations was the Easter Vigil, where flickering candles pierced the darkness, symbolising Christ as the Light of the World.
Worshippers clad in white sang hymns of victory as priests proclaimed: “Christ is risen, alleluia!”
In Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast and Tamale, churches overflowed as families gathered in unity. Many faithful described the season as a time of “spiritual renewal and national reflection.”
A parishioner in Accra shared emotionally:
“Easter reminds us that no matter how difficult things are, there is always hope. Christ’s resurrection is our strength.”
The Triduum—from Holy Thursday through Good Friday to Easter Sunday—was observed with deep reverence. The Stations of the Cross drew large crowds, with many Catholics walking long distances in solemn reflection on Christ’s suffering.
Beyond the liturgy, communities embraced charity, visiting hospitals, orphanages, and prisons. Food donations and acts of kindness defined the season, reinforcing the Church’s call to love one’s neighbour.
In many parishes, priests used their homilies to call for national unity and moral renewal.
“Let the resurrection of Christ inspire us to rebuild our nation with truth, justice and compassion,” one homilist urged.
As the final hymns echoed across packed churches on Easter Sunday, one message stood clear: Ghana’s Catholic faithful are holding firmly to hope—and to Christ.
