Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Mr. Senyo Hosi, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as a bold and decisive response to the recent attack on officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the Ahafo Region.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, November 4, Mr. Hosi said the President’s swift action marked a significant turning point in the fight against illegal mining and in the exercise of presidential authority.
“Now we have a head of state, we have a real president, and he’s showing his power, and this is what we expect of proper leadership,” said Mr. Hosi, who is also a member of the Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining.
The comment followed an incident at Bronikrom, near Hwidiem, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, where a NAIMOS task force came under violent attack, allegedly led by two Members of Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo of Asutifi North and Mr. Collins Dauda of Asutifi South.
The assault, which left members of the task force injured, has drawn widespread condemnation, including from the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Bagbin, who warned that the House would not shield any MP found guilty of misconduct.
Mr. Hosi said the President’s prompt and firm response had restored public confidence in the authority of the presidency.
“I’m so impressed by the swiftness of His Excellency the President,” he said. “When you defy his men, who are at the forefront of the most important fight of this country, you are defying the directives of the Commander-in-Chief. So I was waiting to see whether we have a president or not and he has saved that office by his act.”
He added that President Mahama’s intervention signalled the kind of leadership the country needed to bring the menace of galamsey to an end.
“This is the form of leadership we have always been looking for,” Mr. Hosi noted. “And I hope that this will not be one flash in the pan, but the pan itself—so that everybody will realise that, when it comes to galamsey, there is no tolerance for nonsense.”
He expressed admiration for the President’s leadership and urged him to go further in dealing with offenders within his own party.
“JM, I salute you today, you have made me happy,” he said. “This is just the beginning just don’t do it like comedy; there is more to do. You have to sack that guy from your party.”
