Parish Councils in Obuasi Diocese hold Workshop

An orientation workshop was recently held for members of all Parish Councils in the Obuasi Diocese at the St. Thomas Cathedral in Obuasi to equip them with a fair appreciation of Ecclesiastical and Canonical requirements for leadership in the local Church communities.

It was attended by 750 participants comprising Priests, Catechists and lay faithful who are chosen to serve the local church communities in various capacities. It was held under the theme: Collaborative Ministry: Fostering the growth of the Catholic Church in Obuasi through Lay empowerment and participation. The theme happens to be the Obuasi Diocesan pastoral theme for the year 2024 and thus was designed to bring the theme into fruition in every facet of the Obuasi Diocesan family.

The Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. John Yaw Afoakwah, in an address to open the workshop, said there was the need for people in the various leadership positions in the local church communities to be abreast with the Diocesan Statutes and some measures of Ecclesiastical and Canonical dictates of the Universal Church.

The workshop was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Paul K. Davor, the Director of the St. John Paul II Formation and Training Center at Ofoase-Kokobeng, and Rev. Fr. Gregory K. Afful, the Chancellor of the Obuasi Diocese.

The participants were taken through leadership in the Church from the perspectives of Canon Law and the Obuasi Diocesan Statutes. The question-and-answer session of the programme offered an opportunity for the participants to deliberate more on issues in respect of the roles they play in the Church as groups and as individuals.
