As part of his three-day working visit to Ghana, the President of Malta, Mr. George Vella, recently toured the HopeXchange Medical Centre at Nwamase in the Kumasi Archdiocese.

The HopeXchange Medical Centre was established in 2008 through the initiative of Mr. Mario Capello, a Maltese national.

Mr. Vella commended his compatriot, Mr. Capello, for spearheading the establishment of the Medical Centre in Kumasi.

He expressed satisfaction at the kind of equipment available at the facility which he said were enough to provide the basic healthcare, “it is equipped with the necessary equipment to provide healthcare to the people.”

The President of Malta was accompanied by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Mr. Sam Pyne and the Maltese High Commissioner to Ghana, Jean Claude Galea Mallia.

The General Manager of the facility, Dominic Kofi Osei, was grateful to the Maltese President for the visit to see what the people of Malta have done for the people of Kumasi and Ghana.

He said the visit and the words of the President would serve as an encouragement for the management and staff to continue to give their best for the patients and in the delivery of healthcare in the country.

He said the initiative by Mr. Capello to seek support to set up a hospital in Ghana to support the provision of health care in Ghana should inspire Ghanaians to do the same.

He said it was possible for Ghanaians to also lead such initiatives to support the government in the provision of health care in the country.
