Baby Snatch Drama At Mamprobi

Fear and shock gripped residents of Mamprobi last week when news broke that a baby had allegedly been stolen from the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
The dramatic incident, which unfolded within the facility’s maternity unit, sent anxious relatives and health workers into a frantic search as word spread that an unidentified woman had made away with the infant under suspicious circumstances.
But in what many are describing as a remarkable show of professionalism and speed, the Ghana Police Service moved swiftly to track down and arrest the suspect.

Swift Police Response
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Ms. Juliana Obeng, the suspect was apprehended following intelligence-led investigations and community collaboration. She assured the public that the baby was safely recovered and that investigations are ongoing to establish the full facts of the case.

“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we continue our investigations. The safety of citizens, especially vulnerable children, remains our top priority,” she stated.
The Catholic Standard commends the Ghana Police Service for its prompt response and decisive action, which helped to avert what could have been a tragic outcome.

A Wake-Up Call for Health Facilities
While the swift arrest has brought relief, the incident raises serious questions about security protocols in public health facilities.

Hospitals and polyclinics, particularly maternity wards, are meant to be secure environments. Yet, this incident exposes potential gaps that must be urgently addressed.

Ms. Obeng advised health facilities and families to strengthen safety measures, including:
· Strict visitor identification and verification procedures
· Mandatory visitor log books with contact details
· Limited access to maternity wards
· Use of identification bands for mothers and babies
· Installation of CCTV cameras in critical areas
· Enhanced collaboration between hospital security and local police

She further encouraged families to remain vigilant and avoid handing over newborns to unknown persons without proper identification.
Residents of Mamprobi have expressed relief at the baby’s recovery but are calling for improved safeguards to prevent any recurrence.
