Rise, Evangelise, And Build Strong Families

— Nuncio Charges Faithful

Cape Coast — The Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Archbishop Julien Kaboré, has issued a stirring call to Catholics to rekindle their missionary zeal, defend the sanctity of the family, and become instruments of peace and communion in an increasingly fractured world.

Delivering the homily at the St. Francis De Sales Cathedral during the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Archdiocese of Cape Coast, Archbishop Kaboré urged the faithful to “rise without delay” and embrace their calling with fresh resolve.

Drawing inspiration from Saints Peter and Paul, the Nuncio said their lives remain urgent messages for today. “’Get up quickly!’ — the angel’s command to a chained Peter — and Paul’s declaration, ‘I have fought the good fight’, are not just echoes of history,” he said. “They are God’s summons to the Church in Cape Coast today.”

He described Peter’s miraculous escape from prison as a symbol of the resurrection, and a call to break free from fear, fatigue, and routine.

“The Gospel remains alive. It always disrupts injustice, evil, and exclusion,” he charged.

Archbishop Kaboré warned against complacency in faith and called for the Church to reach beyond the walls of tradition to embrace the poor, the outcast, and the weary. “No one is a stranger in the Church. All belong,” he stressed.

Reflecting on the sacrifices of early missionaries and lay faithful, he urged the current generation to carry forward the flame of faith, not with nostalgia, but with courage and conviction.

The Archbishop also commended Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle of Cape Coast for his leadership, describing the convergence of the Archdiocese’s Jubilee, his 75th birthday, and the Universal Church’s Jubilee Year as “a moment richly imbued with grace.”

Touching on family life, the Nuncio described the family as “sacred soil” where love, obedience, and sacrifice shape individuals. He pointed to the Holy Family — Jesus, Mary and Joseph — as the blueprint for Christian households.

“Even a glance of reconciliation is better than a night of silence,” he noted, quoting St. Paul.

Linking peace in the home to peace in society, he echoed Pope Francis’ call for global solidarity and an end to war. “There are no distant wars when human dignity is at stake. Let us be sowers of peace in our homes, Church, and nations,” he concluded.
