Centre of Hope Calls for Support

To fulfil its mandate of inspiring hope in the destitute, marginalised people with disabilities, the sick, the poor, needy children, and HIV patients, the Centre of Hope has appealed for support from all people of goodwill.

Sr. Agartha Ackon, Regional Councillor of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM) Congregation, Managers of the Centre, made the call at a donation ceremony held by the National Anchor of Hope Society in Accra. She noted that the Centre relies entirely on donations from both foreign and local benefactors.

“Due to dwindling assistance, we are unable to reach more people or adequately cater for the many who come to our gates daily seeking help,” she said, calling on individuals, organisations, and Parishes to assist in caring for the less privileged.

Mr. Mike Ezan, National President of the Anchor of Hope Society, led the delegation of National Executives to present a cash donation of GH₵5,000 to support the Centre’s activities. He explained that the gesture formed part of activities marking the Society’s First National Congress held on May 3, 2025, in Accra. Similar donations were made earlier to the Weija Leprosarium, the Matthew 25 House (an HIV/AIDS support facility in Koforidua), and the Legacy of Hope project initiated by the Archbishop of Accra.

Mr. Ezan praised the FMM Sisters for their unwavering dedication to caring for the vulnerable in society.

“Our Holy Spirit Cathedral Chapter has supported the Centre annually for over five years. We hope that this collaboration will be sustained in the years ahead,” he added.

Receiving the donation, Sr. Maurice Bedaar-Une, FMM, Acting Coordinator of the Centre, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Society. She said the funds would go a long way in supporting the Centre’s work, particularly in helping HIV patients who are referred to them for financial and material assistance.

She also extended thanks to all benefactors and encouraged others to emulate their generosity.
