Protect, Live the Faith – Bishop Gyamfi to Catholics

Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese and President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference (GCBC) has advised Catholics particularly members of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) to live and protect the Catholic faith that they profess. To do this, he urged them to learn the Social Teachings and Doctrines of the Church and transmit same to the younger ones. “Learn the social teachings of the Church, know them, justify the faith and be an Order that communicates the teachings to your cadets and junior auxiliaries, by practicing it”, he said. The Bishop said this when he presided over a Mass for members of the New Sunyani Grand Commandery of the Knights of St. John International and their Ladies Auxiliary (KSJI) in Sunyani. Bishop Gyamfi reminded members of the Order that their first allegiance should be to the Church before the Society. He encouraged Catholics to frequently go for confession and teach the younger ones to do same. He entreated the leadership of the Commandery to see to the spiritual growth of the members and be less materialistic. The Bishop welcomed the Grand Officers, the Nobles, and Dames from the Supreme Subordinate Commandery, and the Kumasi Grand Commandery for joining the Sunyani group in thanking God for Spiritual and material development of the Church. Brig. Gen. Prof. Daniel Obeng Ofori, Grand President for the new Sunyani commandery, thanked Bishop Gyamfi, Bishop Peter Atuahene of Goaso, Bishop Dominic Yeboah Nyarko of Techiman and Brig. Gen Prof. Anthony, Supreme Subordinate 2nd Vice President and past Grand President of Kumasi Grand Commandery; N/S Benedicta Kate Adusei, 1st Vice president of the Grand Ladies Auxiliary of Kumasi, and Major Dr. V.T.K Agbeli for their support in creating the Sunyani Grand which now has three districts. He said the Sunyani Grand Commandery was created to promote spiritual and material growth of the Church. He assured the Bishop that members of KSJI will commit their time, talents and resources into the service of the Church. The programme ended with a route march through the principal streets in Sunyani and climaxed at the Eusbett International Conference Centre, where hundreds of Knights and Ladies of KSJI with Bishop Gyamfi as their special guest were hosted at a reception by Brig. Gen. Sir Sam Bennett, CEO of Eusbett hotel and Sam Bennett group of Companies. The thanksgiving was concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. William Kyere, Cathedral Administrator; Rev. Fr. Dennis Gyabaah, Associate Cathedral Administrator and Rev. John Essel Mensah, permanent Deacon.
