Two OLA Sisters celebrate Golden Jubilee
Rev. Srs. Regina Kampo and Rose Sumah of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA), recently marked their Golden Jubilee of Profession of Vows with a thanksgiving Mass at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Madina, Accra.
Most Rev. Emmanuel Fianu, Bishop of Ho Diocese, was the main celebrant at the Mass which was concelebrated by many Priests of the Society of African Missions (SMA) including Very Rev. Fr. James Owusu Yeboah, SMA, Regional Superior.
It was attended by many OLA Sisters and Reverend Sisters from other Congregations as well as past and current Students of the OLA Girls Senior High School at Ho.
In a homily, Bishop Fianu reminded the celebrants of the need to look back and retrace their life journey with Christ as Consecrated Women; whether they had lived their Vocation with commitment and in conformity with the tenets of their Congregation.
He noted that the Consecrated Life they had lived for the past fifty years was a mutual commitment between God and the Sisters who responded to the Evangelical Counsels of Chastity, Poverty and Obedience.
Bishop Fianu acknowledged that fifty years of Consecrated Life, and indeed in the life of everyone, was an important milestone worth celebrating and advised them to let their lives attract other people to the Religious Vocation.
He encouraged the celebrants to recount with joy what the Lord had done for them, continue to make Christ their first and only love as they promised at their First Profession and live with the same vigour and commitment that they embraced 50 years ago.
The Provincial Superior of the Missionary Sisters of OLA, Rev. Sr. Elizabeth Amoako-Arhen, commended Srs. Kampo and Sumah for their commitment and fidelity to their Vocation in spite of the many challenges they encountered.
In a brief remark, Sr. Kampo, said the past fifty had not been easy but with the help of God and support from their colleagues, families and friends, they had been able to sail through.
She thanked all for their immeasurable support over the years, calling for their continued prayers.
The colorful celebration was spiced with songs by the Queen of Peace and OLA SHS Choirs.
After the Mass, the two inspected a Parade mounted by the OLA SHS Cadet Corps in their honour.
A reception was later held at the Parish Hall Complex to climax the celebration.
Both Srs. Kampo and Sumah were received as Postulants on March 8, 1964 and had their formation at the OLA Novitiate in Ibadan, Nigeria, becoming Novices on March 8, 1965 and making their First Profession of Vows on March 8, 1967.
Sr. Kampo, a Teacher, is currently involved in Parish work and the Formation of Catechists at the Queen of Peace Church, while Sr. Sumah, a Nurse, is training new Candidates through Postulancy at the OLA Formation House, Cape Coast.
