‘Teach Youth To Understand Catholic Heritage’
From Fr. Emmanuel Dolphyne
Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, the Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, has called for the education of the youth in order to help them understand their Catholic heritage.
The Bishop described the youth as the light of the Church and charged the adults to ensure they were educated in the Catholic faith. This, he said, would not only help the youth to understand the Catholic faith, but also equip them to become teachers of the faith to their peers, and also, as replacements for the ageing Catechists.
He made the call in a homily during a four-day pastoral visit to the St. Francis Xavier Parish at Prestea.
He centred his homily on four key areas, namely: the youth, the Catechist, Church lands and the re-organisation of the Parish. The Bishop visited Himan, Anyinam, Sankofa Gold Company and the Golden Star Mining Limited and interacted with the faithful, the Chiefs and the Elders of the communities and also had a first hand experience of underground mining.
Bishop Kwofie also confirmed 149 candidates and encouraged them to use their spiritual gifts for the benefit of the Church.
The Bishop was accompanied by Very Rev. Fr. Raphael Mensah, Chancellor and were welcomed to St. Francis Xavier Parish by Very Rev. Fr. Raphael Eshun, Parish Priest and Dean of the Tarkwa Deanery and Rev. Fr. Eric Anyidor, Parochial Vicar.
