Organise durbars to halt instant justice – Bishop Boi-Nai
News Desk Report
Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, SVD, Bishop of Yendi, has appealed to the government to support Chiefs and other stakeholders to organise durbars to educate people against mob actions and lawlessness in the country.
Bishop Boi-Nai, who is a member of the National Peace Council, bemoaned the rampant instant justice in society, saying that the earlier it was stopped, the better it would be for the growth and development of the country.
He also urged the National Commission for Civic Education, National Peace Council, Civil Society Organisations and Religious Bodies to organize educational programmes to educate the youth to refrain from such shameful acts in their areas.
He decried the upsurge of instant justice, describing it as an embarrassment to the country since that could scare potential investors especially those lobbying to support government policies.
Speaking to Journalists at Yendi in the Northern Region in the wake of the murder of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, the Bishop said from a Christian perspective, no one had the right to take the life of another person since it is God that gives and takes life.
He said that the gruesome lynching of Major Mahama was a wake-up call for the Security Agencies and the Law Courts to enforce appropriate laws to deter others.
Bishop Boi-Nai wondered why people in the 21st Century would take the Laws of the country into their own hands to perpetuate such barbaric acts.
He re-echoed the words of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his response to the gruesome murder that “No one involved in the murder will go free”
