Bishop Boi-Nai speaks on ‘galamsey’
The Bishop of Yendi Diocese, Most Rev. Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, SVD, has added his voice to the many calls to deal with the ‘galamsey’ menace in the country and the upsurge of vigilante groups.
He made the call in a homily at the Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral at Yendi recently.
Bishop Boi-Nai expressed worry on how illegal mining had polluted many water bodies in the country and destroyed farmlands, calling on Ghanaians to appreciate and care for God’s gift of the earth to humanity.
He reminded Ghanaians of warnings by environmentalists and other experts that if ‘galamsey’ activities in the country continued, Ghana in the next 20 years will have to import potable water.
The Bishop bemoaned all activities that posed danger to the environment including open defecation, indiscriminate disposal of waste and felling of trees, stressing the need to protect the environment for future generations.
He also touched on the activities of vigilante groups in the country and stressed the need to curtail their activities to safeguard the peace and stability the nation is enjoying.
Bishop Boi-Nai called on all Ghanaians to be disciplined, law abiding and support government in the fight against ‘galamsey’ to protect the environment and promote national peace and cohesion.
He urged Christians to use the Easter season to reflect deeply on the Resurrection of Christ and live renewed lives, advising them to condemn all negative acts and be patriotic in their activities.
