Persevere in faith – Priests urged

Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, has urged Priests and the Religious to persevere and forge ahead in faith in spite of their many shortcomings and failings.
Saying that the fall of man was not the end of his life, he encouraged them to emulate the life of St. Peter, the first Pope of the Church, who in spite of his many mistakes, was still a great man of God.
Bishop Gyamfi made the call when he presided over this year’s Chrism Mass at the Christ the King Cathedral at Sunyani, attended by Priests, Religious and lay faithful of the Diocese.
He said as Christ’s representatives on earth, Priests were called to walk in His footsteps by being gentle, loving and healing the broken-hearted, encouraging them to be comforted by the work they were doing for God and humanity.
The Bishop entreated the lay faithful to pray for Priests and the Religious and offer them the necessary support, asking them to freely approach their Priests to share their challenges and successes with them. He called on the faithful to come together and build the Diocese.
At the Mass, the Priests renewed their Priestly commitments to the Bishop to be faithful to the teachings of the Church, reports Michael Akornoba.
From the St. Thomas Cathedral at Obuasi, Kingsford Bona-Antwi reports that Most Rev. John Yaw Afoakwah, Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese blessed the oils of Catechumens, the sick and the Sacred Chrism while the Priests renewed their Vows.
The Bishop asked them to be united, work as a team and serve the people of God with humility
