Yendi Peace Commission  Calls for Calm in Mion

The Justice and Peace Commission of the Yendi Diocese has appealed to the Dagombas and Konkombas who have been involved in the recent clashes at Zogbei in the Mion District in the Northern Region to cease fire and embrace peace.

The Commission condemned the needless violence that resulted in the loss of lives and properties. It said the people of the Northern Region have been enjoying peace for some time now and “we believe that a disputed parcel of land should not be allowed to break the symbiotic relationship that the people have enjoyed for many years”.

It condemned the violence acts and urged both sides to give peace a chance, bury their hatchet, forgive each other and continue to live together as brethren to ensure that economic activities and development in the area are not retarded.

The Commission appealed to Traditional Authorities, especially the Overlord of Dagbon, the Yaa Naa and Konkomba Chiefs to use their influence and wisdom to resolve the incident for lasting peace to return and reign in the area as soon as possible.

“We applaud the Regional Minister for the prompt deployment of security personnel and the Regional Security Council and the Mion District Security Committee, for their roles in ensuring calm, and we encourage them to continue until lasting peace returns to the area. We call on government and all stakeholders to work together to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the Commission said.
