Marshallans to Construct Grotto for St. George Church
The sod was recently cut for the construction of a Grotto for the St. George Catholic Church at the National Police Training School, Tesano in the Accra Archdiocese.
The project estimated at GH¢225, 000 is being undertaken by Council 115 and Court 110 of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, Airport West, Accra. When completed, it will comprise a stone pitched cave, a statute of Mother Mary, a marble Altar and permanent seating-capacity of 60.
Bro. MICHAEL MENSAH, Grand Knight of the Council explained that the construction forms part of the projects of the 10th Anniversary celebration of the Council and Court.
He said in the last ten years, the members have endeavoured to embody the teachings of Christ through their actions. “We have served as His hands, extending help to those in need, and His heart, filled with compassion for all of God’s children”, he added.
Some activities, they have embarked on, Bro. Mensah said include liaising with the Electricity Company of Ghana in 2017 to extend electricity to the Kressner Home, an orphanage run by the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) Sisters which hitherto was run solely on diesel powered generators; visitation and donation to the House of St. Francis in Ashaiman, a Catholic run rehabilitation centre for substance and drug addicts in 2018; construction of a washroom facility for the Mary Mother of God Catholic Church at Larteh Akropong in the Koforidua Diocese and the construction of a three-Unit Classroom Block for the pupils of Gbogame RC School in the Volta Region.
The Grand Knight expressed gratitude to members for their unwavering support and contributions. “I will also take the opportunity to make a clarion call to all of you, parishioners of St. George and all benefactors and benefactresses to contribute generously to this project as Council 115 and Court 110 of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall are only spearheading the construction. This project is for all of us, and we must all contribute to make this dream a reality”, he said.
Very Rev. Fr. (DCOP) George Arthur, Chaplain – General of the Ghana Police Service and Parish Priest of the St. George Catholic Church, thanked the Marshallans for taking the initiative to provide a place of medication, devotion and prayer for the Church community.
He prayed for a successful completion of the project and for the benefactors and all who will support it.
In a homily preceding the sod cutting ceremony, Fr. Arthur urged the faithful to desist from complains and murmurings in times of adversity but instead keep faith and trust in God. He also advised them to entrust all their endeavours into the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Fr. Arthur who was celebrating his 56th birthday and 29th Anniversary in the Priesthood, was thankful to God for counting him worthy of the call to His Vineyard, preserving and sustaining him throughout the years. He expressed appreciation to all who have supported him in his ministry and asked for their continuous prayers.
He later planted a coconut tree on the Church premises to mark the anniversary.
The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman, the Associate Priest of the Church.
The year-long Anniversary celebrations is on the theme: Compassion and Faith: Marshallans as Hearts and Hands of the World.
