The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has commended the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, for the great work he has done in Ghana that endeared him to the heart of Ghanaians. “You have been accepted by Ghanaians and we are grateful for all that you have done for Ghana”, said Otumfuo.
The Asantehene made the comment when the Nuncio paid a courtesy call on him, recently, at his Palace to officially announce his departure from Ghana for his new duty post in South Africa. He lauded the Catholic Church for her contribution in the areas of education and health, adding that the values and teachings of the Church are important for the development of Ghana.
He asked the Nuncio to convey his warm greetings to the Holy Father, Pope Francis whom he was pleased to have met at the Vatican. “I hope that the Pope will pay a visit to Ghana, soon, the Asantehene added. He assured the Nuncio of his prayers for a successful duty tour in South Africa.
Earlier the Nuncio told the Asantehene that he was very pleased to have met him on a number of occasions in Kumasi. He was happy that the Otumfuo has been of great support to the Church in the Kumasi Archdiocese and Ghana as a whole.
The Nuncio presented a medal that commemorated the Ninth Anniversary of the Pontificate of Pope Francis.
He was accompanied on his visit to the Asantehene by: Most Rev. Gabriel J. Anokye, Archbishop of Kumasi; Most Rev. John Opoku-Agyemang, Bishop of Konongo-Mampong; Sir Kantinka Donkor Fordjour, a renowned Economist; Sir Fosuaba Mensah Banahene, President of the Forum of Papal Knights and Dames, Ghana; Sir Andrew Agyekum, and Ben Assorow.
Archbishop Jagodzinski also paid a courtesy call on Archbishop (Emeritus) Peter K. Sarpong of Kumasi at his residence in Kumasi. He thanked him for the very inspiring articles that he writes for The Catholic Standard. Archbishop Sarpong in turn commended the Nuncio for all that he has done for Ghana as the Representative of the Holy Father in the country.
The Nuncio has written four books. These are: a) Ghana, Paradise Country; b) Notes from Ghana and c) Akwaaba in Ghana Means Welcome, all these are in Polish and the fourth one: Ghana In My Heart is in English. The latter was launched at Christ the King Parish Hall, Accra on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
