The Vice President of Ghana and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia promised to complete the St. Jude Catholic Church building at New Weija in Accra when he paid a courtesy visit to them.
Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell, SVD, the Parish Priest, and the Resident Director of the Weija Leprosarium, reflecting on Ezekiel 2:2-5 at the Mass noted that churches all over the world are always filled with people but vices such as bribery, corruption, same-sex marriages, abortion, divorce, theft even in the church among others are on the rise because people do not pay heed to God’s word.
“Today, we can say we do not listen to the word of the Lord in our lives, we are not doing what God wants us to do, we are not living as we should”, he said.
He said Ghana is blessed with oil, bauxite, gold, cocoa, timber, sunshine, and freedom among others but ranks the 70 least corrupt country out of 180 countries. He admonished those present to heed the advice of the Prophet Ezekiel, repent, be honest, transparent, and trusting of one another.
“It starts with you. If each person makes a promise to God to listen to His Word, abide by it, and be the light of the world, we will not be a third-world Country”, he reiterated
Fr. Campbell thanked the Vice President for his continuous support for the Leprosarium and especially for his support of five-year-old Priscilla from the Leprosarium, who is being taken to Rome to complete a surgery on her left leg.
The President of the Church Pastoral Council, Mr. Jerry Steven Hanson, appealed to the Vice President to help resume work on an abandoned school block which was started in 2019, noting that the St. Jude Basic School was currently overcrowded, being the only public school in the community.
Together with Fr. Campbell, they presented a picture of St. Jude and a Holy Bible to the Vice President on behalf of the church.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia promised to work on the road and furnish the Get-Fund with the needed funds for work to resume on the school block.
He expressed gratitude to Fr. Campbell for all he has been doing for the less privileged, describing him as a living Saint, and prayed for long life for him to continue to do more.
Together with his entourage, the Vice President made a cash donation to a parishioner in need of spinal surgery and the Catholic Youth Organisation (CYO).
Among those present were, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Titus Glover; Greater Accra Regional Chairman for the NPP, Mr. Divine Otoo Agorhom; Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Tina Gifty Ayeley Mensah, and other dignitaries.
