Akim Ofoase celebrates Holy Childhood
Children of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Akim Ofoase in the Koforidua Diocese, recently participated in a series of activities to mark this year’s Holy Childhood Week celebration.
Delivering a Talk on Vocation, Rev. Sr. Jacinta Kwaakyewaa of the Handmaids of the Divine Redeemer (HDR) Congregation, explained that there were three Vocations in the Church namely, Priesthood, Religious Life and Marriage.
She stated that all one needed to enter a vocation was to be baptized, confirmed, be an active member of the Church, be of sound mind and be willing to serve.
Sr. Kwaakyewaa took them through the formation process and encouraged young men and women of good faith to embrace this vocation when well discerned.
Mr. Ofori Barnes, Headmaster of Ofoase District Assembly (D/A) Model School, speaking on Importance of Education, described education as the process of changing lives of individuals to acquire particular knowledge and skills.
He added that, educating children gives them the baseline skills to support life such as basic arithmetic, ability to communicate well and perform simple task.
Mr. Eric Bediako of the Akim Ofoase Social Welfare Unit, educated the children on their rights and responsibilities.
Speaking on the Causes, Effects and Solutions to Teenage Pregnancy and Drug Abuse, Mrs. Elizabeth Apeku of the St. John’s Clinic and Maternity, explained that, drug abuse is the use of drugs without prescription or advice by a medical practitioner.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Prince Horsu, admonished the youth to be imitators of Christ and influence their peers positively.
